I’d Walked the Walk. Was it Time to Talk a Dock?

by Michael Polzella

Dock Tales, Part 6

Until I was lured into buying lake property at the one-day sale, my wife and I had agreed we’d never own a second home. Seemed like too much responsibility and we enjoy traveling to new places.

Now I owned a lot 250 miles from home without liquidity to build a cabin. Yet whenever I said, “We must improve the asset,” my wife quickly replied, “What’s this going to cost us?”

Momentarily narrowing my dreams, I considered a dock instead. How much is one? Google answered: $8,000 to $80,000 – and suggested builders. Lucky for me, my first call yielded a deal.
