Dock Tales Part 8
Buying a used dock means you don’t control your timetable. First, you have to wait for the previous owners to release it, which doesn’t happen until their new dock is near ready.
Next, you need a permit. The governing agency in my instance was Duke Energy, which began building this lake for hydroelectric power in 1916 by damming the Catawba and Linville rivers.
Months later, with permit issued, I was ready for construction of the gangway that would rise and fall with seasonal lake levels. Then I had to be patient for the busy crew to fit me in their schedule.
