Dock Tales, Part 10
When our dock was ready, my next challenge was developing access.
After Duke Energy dammed the lake 100 years ago, access to its shores branched off a state road curving around its steep hillside coves. The rare forested creek delta that I bought had evidently been a secret fishing, hunting, camping and partying destination for locals, who’d carved a rugged challenging path down to its beach.
My goal was to fill in the path and build a safer one for my family, which now included grandchildren. My first step was to file a county building permit and hire a grader.
